Stolen Vanderbilt Computer Contains Student Information

Abstract
Vanderbilt University recently notified current and former students after a computer contain student information was stolen. The computer, stolen from a professor's office during the weekend of February 6th, contained a grade book with the names, grades and Social Security numbers of 7,174 current and former students. In the notice, Vanderbilt is offering affected individuals one year of identity protection, credit monitoring and credit alerts through Debix. In response to the theft, Vanderbilt University Provost Richard McCarty sent a letter to all deans advising sensitive student information be purged from office computers and not stored in the future.
