Abstract
The Rochester Institute of Technology is alerting around 1,000 individuals that their personal information was contained on a laptop stolen from the campus in early November. According to the notification letter, the laptop was one of three that contained the names, birth dates and Social Security numbers of individuals associated with RIT. Individuals affected by this incident are being offered one year of free credit monitoring by RIT. Interestingly, RIT cannot offer this free monitoring to residents of New York State due to state laws despite the fact that RIT is itself located in New York.
Special thanks to David Shettler from the Open Security Foundation for making ESI aware of this incident
