Abstract
West Virginia University recently notified students after a routine update left personal information available to other students. An operational error during an update of tax information WVU's 1098T Web site left the tax forms, including names and Social Security numbers, of 53 WVU students visible to anyone using the site on January 15. The error was discovered quickly and the site was taken down within 90 minutes of the update. WVU plans to leave the site down until a fix can be found. For now, WVU students will not be able to obtain their tax forms online, but the university is working to mail these forms out to students. Notification letters were sent to the student affected by the incident.
