University Uncovers Unauthorized Access During Routine Risk Assessment

Quick Facts

Abstract
The University of Texas at San Antonio notified 53,000 current and former students and 11,000 faculty and staff notifying these individuals that their personal information might have been exposed due to a computer security breach. However, University officials were quick to point out that this breach was discovered before any information was copied or altered. This breach was discovered during a routine risk assessment of UTSA's computer servers. The breached server contained names, addresses, Social Security numbers, and financial aid information. UTSA's technology team and local police are currently investigating this incident.
