Abstract
Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) is alerting current and former students to a recent security breach. It seems that a file containing personal information on 23,000 Georgia Tech students and alumni was available for a period of time online. This file did not contain Social Security number of financial information but it did contain individual names, birth dates and other demographical information protected under Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) legislation. Georgia Tech does know that this information was accessed at least once by an unauthorized source. At this point, Georgia Tech is unaware of any misuse of the information contain in the exposed file.
