Financial Information On Thousands E-mailed To Student

Quick Facts

Abstract
Duquesne University is alerting thousands of students after an e-mail to the wrong individual exposed personal and sensitive information. The e-mail in question, containing financial aid information on any student that filled out a FAFSA form and listed Duquesne on it, was sent to a Duquesne student on October 8th by mistake. The information contained in the e-mail included names, addresses, Social Security numbers, and financial information including household income and size of household. The student that accidentally received the e-mail was the individual to report the incident to the university. This student also worked with the university to remove the file from their system and stated that this information was not shared with anyone else. Duquesne believes the problem to be contained, but urged any student worried about identity theft to closely monitor their credit report. Duquesne asks that anyone with concerns over the incident contact the university public affairs office.
