Stolen Notre Dame Laptop Contains Employee Information

Abstract
Notre Dame announced that a laptop belonging to a University Director was recently stolen. Among other information, employee names, Social Security numbers and salary information was contained on this laptop. The laptop in question was stolen in late December and letters alerting to ND staff were send out in early January. According to the letter, the information on the laptop was password protected, but there was no mention of any encryption or other security measures in use. Employees are urged to contact the major credit bureaus and monitor their credit reports carefully.
