Stolen Flash Drive Contains Student Social Security Numbers

Quick Facts

Abstract
Grand Valley State University is alerting students to the possibility of identity theft after a recent thief made off with a flash drive. The drive in question, stolen from the GVSU English department, contained 3,000 student names and Social Security numbers. Given that the drive was stolen along with other miscellaneous office supplies, GVSU believes the thief was after the equipment and not the data contained on the drive. However, all affected students have been notified and GVSU recommends that concerned students contact the major credit bureaus and place a fraud alert on their account.
