Abstract
Columbia University began notifying individuals after three laptops containing personal information were stolen on January 18th. The laptops contained the names and Social Security Numbers on 1,400 current, former and prospective students. In a statement, Columbia said the affected individuals have been notified and identity theft protection has been offered.

Abstract
Humboldt State University recently announced that a virus infection may have exposed employee information. According to HSU spokesperson Paul Mann, at least one computer containing the personal information of 3,500 individuals employed by HSU between 2002 and 2006 may have been exposed by a sophisticated virus. In the announcement, HSU urged individuals affected to monitor their credit reports and place fraud alerts on their accounts.

Abstract
Utrecht University recently announced that a mistake by a contractor exposed employee information. According to the announcement, a technical fault at Randstad HR Solutions caused some employees to receive the pay slips and annual statements of others along with their own. Employees are urged to destroy the pay slips and statements if they do not belong to them. Randstad has promised to look into the situation and implement solutions to prevent a similar occurrence in the future.

Abstract
The University of California, San Francisco recently announced the recovery of a stolen laptop containing patient information. The laptop, stolen from the UCSF School of Medicine employee around November 30th, contained the name, medical record number, age and clinical information on 4,400 patients. The UCSF police department began investigating the theft on December 1st and the laptop was recovered on January 8th. A review of the laptop determined the files contained "limited data" on UCSF Medial Center patients as well as some information on Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. UCSF has setup a hot line - 877-809-1270 x74005 - to help answer questions about the incident.

Abstract
Beth Philips, the US Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, recently announced that a former University of Central Missouri police officer and his wife plead guilty to identity theft targeting UCM students. James and Amanda Drake admitted to stealing UCM enrollment lists containing student names, dates of birth and Social Security numbers. The Drakes used this information to obtain 250 credit cards in students' names and charge over $30,000.
